'Bob's favourite wine and a variety originating from Italy's Alto Adige'. Aromas of black cherries and cranberries, hints of aniseed and lively cinnamon spice. The palate is rich and luscious with plums, dark red fruits and an overlay of dark chocolate.
Food Pairing: This wine is best served as an aperitif or would perfectly accompany an assortment of lamb shanks, braised venison, or any game meat.
Winemakers Notes: Lagrein is a red wine grape variety native to the valleys of South Tyrol, Northern Italy. It is thought to be a descendant of Teroldego, and related to Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Dureza.
After harvesting, it was destemmed and lightly crushed into 1-ton open fermenters, where fermentation was conducted over 10 days with hand plunging 3 times daily. Before completion of fermentation, half was pressed off skins into oak to retain fresh fruit and aromatics, while the second half was sealed in tank to undertake a post fermentation maceration on skins, a process that softens the middle pallet and builds colour and intense varietal flavour's. The second parcel was sealed in a tank under a cover of Co2 for 2 months, which was then basket-pressed into seasoned French oak for 12 months. It was carefully racked and bottled without any fining and filtration, with no additions except for minimal preservatives.
