Art Series Tempranillo 2019

The bouquet displays savoury varietal fruit characters with overtones of blueberry, raspberry and cherry cola.  Plush red fruits roll across the palate meshed with mixed spices and combined with cedary oak and savoury grape tannins.  This wine can be enjoyed young but will benefit from additional cellar maturation.
Food Matches:                  This wine is best served as an aperitif or alternatively would perfectly accompany a variety of Pizza, and BBQ dishes.
Winemakers Notes:   Tempranillo is best known as the dominant grape of Rioja’s wines, Spain’s best known and most respected grape growing region.  Here it is known for producing superior wines with tight structures, complex aromas and great ageing potential.
A long slow ripening in 2019, particularly for red varieties, resulted in wines that will be remembered for their depth of flavour and colour.  Both Dad and myself believe this is the best vintage of Temp was the best we have seen with amazing colours, aromas and flavours that have the hallmark of the exceptional Grand Reserva wines from Spain and will age gracefully for decades.
Three separate clones of Tempranillo were machine harvested separately at an average 13 Baume in the early crisp morning.  Each parcel was cold soaked for 3 days then individually fermented in open fermenters plunged three times daily.  After fermentation was complete it was basket pressed into 3-4-year-old French Hogsheads, where the wine was aged for 12 months.  After racking and prior to the wine being bottled a blending trial was undertaken, with all three clones were blended together in a mix of 40-20-40 to make a superior complex varietal Tempranillo.  This wine was then bottled without any fining or filtration to retain maximum character and flavour.
